ARTIST BIO

Wendy Sinclair’s body of work celebrates her love of nature, wildlife and landscape. Her artistic practice is a daily opportunity to experiment and express her creative voice.
She resides in the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia and previously lived in Canada and Indonesia. Her travels and experiences in different countries have influenced her creative practice, particularly her use of colour & texture. Her artwork characteristically features media and substrates selected to produce depth and texture, and she incorporates found materials into her work to complement the organic nature of her subjects.

Wendy is a keen photographer and enjoys capturing a range of subjects for her image archive. She often uses colourful and eye-catching sights such as places, flowers, trees and animals as painting references.

Wendy is essentially a mixed media artist, incorporating acrylics (often with impasto techniques), inks, soft pastels, charcoal, graphite, pencils, and any other medium that provides an interesting mark or line. These media work perfectly with the abstract mixed media projects that are her passion. She likes to include collage items from nature such as feathers, Paperbark, snakeskin and pressed flowers, as well as hand-made collage papers.
"I also enjoy the effects of bold mark-making, which are evident in my abstract pieces. I love bold, vibrant colour and texture, lots of texture!”

Her artistic journey began in 2013, and since then, Wendy has participated in exhibitions and competitions, winning first prize in the Novice Oils & Acrylics Section, and third prize in the Novice Mixed Media Section at the Samford Show (2014). Her work was featured at the Melbourne Art Exhibition via Gallery 247, Samford Bowls Art & Craft Exhibition, Oxford Park Art Show and Samford Agricultural Show.
In 2019, Wendy returned from 4 years overseas and has settled back into painting again. In 2020, Wendy has had artworks displayed at the Twin Rivers Lions Virtual Art Show, where she won a Highly Commended Award for “Barn Owl Incognito”, 2 artworks selected for the Albert Park College Art Show and artwork in the Pomona Railway Station Gallery. She continues to exhibit regularly in Gallery247 exhibitions.

Wendy appeared as an artist in the Capsules “Curatorial Leaders in Contemporary Art 3” book published in July 2021. Wendy's pencil skills with "Purple Bauhinia" resulted in her being chosen to appear as a Contributing Artist in the July 2018 issue of Colored Pencil Magazine, USA.

In addition to her personal projects, Wendy welcomes private commissions.
