ARTIST BIO

Janice Webster

1983 I started art classes at Bacchus Marsh Adult Education Centre with Kerry Appleby and then a further four years tuition with Edward Heffernan O.A.M., which included painting workshops to Barham, Kiewa Valley, Port Fairy and Apollo Bay.   This association with Edward was an immensely important part of my life and has been the backbone of my knowledge.   I have built on this with tuition from  many other artists over the years and  including tutored painting trips to Italy, Switzerland, (Robert Wade) England (Robert T. Miller), China (Peter Eggleton) and Italy  (Margaret Cowling).

1986 was a founding member and Co-Convenor for 10 years of the now disbanded Bacchus Marsh Society of Artists.   Became a country member of Victorian Artists Society.

1989 Became a partner in Express Building Art Gallery where I exhibited and commenced teaching painting and drawing.

1992 Opened my own Art Studio and Gallery on our Market Garden Property where I still painting and teach.

1995 Judged the Melton Rotary Art Show.

Although I exhibit my work now mainly at my studio, I have participated in many exhibitions with 17 Major Awards and many Highly Commendeds and was represented over the years in Williamstown Fine Art Gallery,  Artefacts, Ballarat, Clayfire Gallery, Ballarat and many others.   I have many works in collections throughout Australia and overseas and also donated many paintings to charities for fund raising.

My passion for painting has taken me to many countries and around Australia but my real passion is for painting the local landscapes in traditional realism style in any medium but predominately over the last few years in watercolour    Teaching has given me immense pleasure and pride in the achievements of the students and also is the continuation of constant learning for both students and teacher alike.  My family has always been very supportive of my art and they are my priority.   Not being overly ambitious I have stayed within the boundaries of manageability and I paint to simply appreciate the beauty,  atmosphere or light in the ordinary everyday surroundings through an artist’s eyes and the social sharing of inspiration and knowledge.
