My name is Pete James and I live in Melbourne

My passion for Art developed during my schooling years. The desire to create shaped the early part of my working life with roles in photography, signwriting, and graphic design. I have been creating art as an emerging artist for the past 2 years.

My paintings tend to focus on the beach lifestyle, often with a hint of nostalgia. I paint figures as a snapshot in time, with the subjects providing an element of theatre for the viewer to engage with and hypothesize.

I use the bold and bright colours the costumes and the natural elements a beach setting provides, along with over emphasized light and tonal contrasts to dramatize and add depth to each painting.

I previously worked with acrylics, but have recently started working with oils, and I’m relishing the challenge of mastering a new medium.
