ARTIST BIO

Pablo Francis (aka SecureCrayon) is an Australian artist who has worked with coffee, acrylic, and ink on canvas for more than 20 years. He has recently added sculpture to his repertoire, working in wax and casting in bronze. He likes the flow, immediacy and unpredictability that these mediums offer.

Drawing is the foundation of his work, and he relies on the immediancy of ink to impart life and vitality. Every move is honoured, each line is kept, and this gives the work a certain honesty. Mixed media comprising acrylic, ink, coffee and colour prints have been layered, rubbed back and reworked to evoke the natural hues of the Australian landscape. Brushes, ink pens, sticks and even the atrist's own hands are used to draw, blend, rub out and re-apply - creating depth and texture quickly.

Sections and details relating to ‘truth to process’ are included to reinforce the fresh approach to all compositions – droplets of ink and a ‘coffee cup ring’ are signatures that are used to acknowledge the mediums that the artist works with. Small areas of printed detail provide relief from the loose style, drawing focus away from the sweeping perspectives for a moment and giving the viewer a sense of discovery.

The Artist lives and works in St Kilda East, Melbourne. His work has been shown at a number of commercial spaces including galleries, restaurants and boutiques, and is also held in many private collections throughout the world.

Born 1964, Melbourne Australia.
